2014 Formula 1 Malaysian Grand Prix. The Malaysian Grand Prix at the magnificent Sepang circuit provides one of the most fearsome tests of both driver and machinery on the Formula One calendar. The Hermann Tilke-designed track is famed for its two vast straights, separated by the heavy braking multi-line hairpin. Then there’s the possibly – frequently a probability – of a sudden tropical downpour. Jenson Button is the most experienced driver in Malaysian Grand Prix history and has a victory and three other podium finishes to his name – but it’s also been a happy circuit for drivers new to McLaren with both Kimi Räikkönen and Fernando Alonso taking their first McLaren victories at Sepang.

The mighty Ford Escorts of the early 70s were all-conquering and today are a force to be reckoned with in rallying and rallycross. The No.26 car was part of the distinctive Team Ford and BP liveried team that entered many rallies in the 1969-1972 period with Piot, Clark, Mikkola and Makinen, top drivers of the day and still recognised as being amongst the greatest drivers of all time.

John Taylor and Phil Short entered the Haynes of Maidstone-sponsored Ford Escort RS1800 in the Lombard RAC Rally 1979. The November rally, based at Chester, saw 217 competitors start with just 74 fnishing the rally. Taylor brought the No.18 Ford home to a well deserved 6th place.

Scalextric C3592 Ford Escort Mk. 1 Blue/White

The Mark I Ford Escort was introduced in the United Kingdom at the end of 1967, making its show debut at Brussels Motor Show in January 1968 and went on to become one of the most successful rally cars of all time. The Ford works team was practically unbeatable in the late 1960s and early 1970s, and arguably the Escort’s greatest victory was in the 1970 London to Mexico World Cup Rally being driven by Finnish legend Hannu Mikkola. This gave rise to the Escort Mexico 1.6 L “Kent”-engined special edition road versions in honour of the rally car. Ford also produced an RS2000 model featuring a 2.0 L Pinto (OHC) engine. This also clocked up some rally and racing victories; and pre-empted the hot hatch market as a desirable but affordable performance road car.
