SRC 00701 Alfa Romeo 33 TT 12 L 6H Watkins Glen 1975 Bell-Pescarolo—PRE-ORDER NOW!
This car culminated several seasons of prototypes developed since 1969, evolved as experience was accumulated and regulations were modified.
Designed by Carlo Chiti, was based on a multi-tubular chassis, from there its name TT (Telaio Tubular in Italian), with a 12-cylinder engine in a 180° angle, four valves per cylinder, it achieved 500 HP and allowed the vehicle to reach a top speed of 330 km/h.
Six units were built only and usually three cars were taken to the races, two to compete and one to as reserve for breakdowns or accidents.
The Italian manufacturer experienced one of its best years, wining seven race out of nine. It leaned on the German’s pilot Willy Khausen’s team, who recruited for that season half a dozen Formula 1 drivers that rotate themselves in the driving positions.
For this race, that was the last one of the calendar that season, very early indeed, as it took place on 12th and 13th of July 1975, the drivers were Derek Bell, that after half dozen seasons in F1 without too much success he focused on resistance competition, on which he obtained great results; and Henry Pescarolo, who alternated Grand Prix with resistance, spending one more year afterwards driving single-seaters.
The race had over 50,000 spectators and 36 teams registered for it, out of which 32 turned up for practice, that was tough, as only 17 cars classified for the race.
Our protagonist achieved the third fastest time in practice, 1’45 “450 thousandths. Its race ended up once covered 826.083 kilometres after 6h, 01’23”, obtaining the first place.
The manufacturer after 1975 amazing season conducted a strong media campaign on the markets in which it already had presence.
