The 1969 running of the 24h of Le Mans was the last year with the traditional "Le Mans" style start in which drivers run across the track to start their cars and drive away. The race was one of the most exciting in the event's history. Porsche had already wrapped up the International Championship and were strong favorites to achieve their first outright win.
This model represents the Ford GT40 raced by Brits David Hobbs and Mike Hailwood for John Wyer Automotive Engineering. While their teammates Jacky Ickx and Jackie Oliver won the race, the Hobbs and Hailwood team finished third, wrapping up an historic race for the Wyer GT40's.
