In 1981 Rondeau entered 5 cars; 3 “new” M379Cs in category 6 and 2 in the GTP category to put his 1980 title back into play. Otis, the world's leading elevator manufacturer, was the first to join the Sarthe team for this new adventure. It sponsored car no. 24 driven by Jean Rondeau and Jean-Pierre Jaussaud as well as the Rondeau 379 CL no. 7 entered in GTP.
She was the last of Group 6 to retire after 58 laps. The car became more and more dangerous to drive and the retirement was made official at 11:40 p.m.
