HISTORY
After a disappointing opening at Sebring in 1959, Aston Martin decided not to race at Targa Florio. Stirling Moss proposed to John Wyer to enter the DBR1 at the 1000 km of Nürburgring by personally paying the costs of this unexpected trip.
Moss teamed up with Jack Fairman and proceeded to pull out all the stops to take the win. The victory is considered one of Moss's greatest driving performances. He ended up driving 41 of the 44 laps, having to make up time lost under Fairman. They completed the race in 7:33:18, averaging a speed of 89.2 mph. Moss's pace was so quick, his fastest lap ended up being 5 seconds faster than the pole lap.
