In 1972, Emerson Fittipaldi won the Formula One Drivers' Championship while driving the Lotus 72D, becoming the youngest World Champion in F1 history at the age of 25. Fittipaldi won 5 of 12 races, finished top 3 in 8 of the races, and finished with a 30-point lead over his nearest rival. His record as youngest driver stood for over 30 years, until 2005.
