This week’s slot car special deal:

MRRC MC0035 Ford Mk IV presentation car 1967. Only $39.95 for a limited time. Only one to a customer. No dealer orders.

MRRC MC0035 Ford Mk IV presentation car 1967 (C) (E)

1/32 scale slot car, ready to run on all 1/32 scale slot car tracks. This model is said to represent the livery in which the Ford MkIV was first revealed to the press. We understand that the car was never actually raced in this livery.

This car uses the MRRC/Monogram Sebring chassis. The Sebring chassis is an excellent universal 1/32 scale chassis for use with body kits and for kitbashig and scratchbuilding projects. It can be set up to handle well in both magnet and non-magnet racing. It has an adjustable wheelbase and is compact enough to fit almost any sports car, GT, or sedan body and to allow the use of wide wheels ad tires within even a relatively modest body width.

MRRC and Monogram cars using the Sebring chassis come with a variety of different wheels and tires. All of them use the same “slimline” motor which provides more than enough power for most home and club racing. They are ideal “donor cars” to provide a complete running chassis for the body of your choice at a cost often lower than purchasing the needed components separately.

Slot It SICA13D Jaguar XJR12, #36, LeMans 1991

1/32 scale slot car, ready to run on all 1/32 and 1/24 scale non-digital tracks.

Motor: FC130

Easy, low-cost performance increase for Slot It GTP/Gp. C cars racing with magnets on plastic track…

Install SIPT06 19x10mm silicone slicks (a pair of these comes as extra tires with most of these cars) and an SICN07 racing magnet. The tires slip onto the rear wheels and the magnet snaps into the chassis in place of the original magnet. These two simple changes make a huge difference in the handling of the car and produce much faster lap times.

SRC 00203 Porsche 907 K 12H Sebring 1968 Siffert-Herrmann—PRE-ORDER NOW!

The introduction of new rules by the FIA in 1968 had a negative effect on the 12 Hours of Sebring and all other endurance races of that year. Big bore cars were no longer part of the Manufacturers Championship, placing now emphasis on smaller displacement cars (5 liters or less). Porsche showed up at Sebring with a “short-tail” version of the 907, which overshadowed Ford and Ferrari entries.

A Trans-Am race was included within the 12 Hours. This was at first criticized for the number of GT and Trans-Am cars in the field, but finally this event is now considered as unique in Sebring history for its two races in one format.

During qualifying the 907 driven by Hans Herrmann was fastest.

The Race started as predicted, with the Porsches pulling out to a safe lead and then fighting with various challengers, wearing them down.

The Scooter Patrick/Dave Jordan Lola challenged early but soon set aside due to an engine failure. The Hobbs/Hawkins Ford GT40 was in contention until an accident with the all-female AMC Javelin of Janet Guthrie (later to become the first woman to race at Indianapolis) and Liane Engeman, made them retire.

One of the most popular cars in the race was the turbine-powered Howmet driven by its creator, Ray Heppenstall. It was fast, but it needed to stop for kerosene fuel every hour. At the end of the race its suspension could not withstand the tough Sebring circuit and retired after running as high as third.

While two of the four factory Porsche 907 entries dropped out early in the race, the remaining two dominated the final half of it. Hans Herrmann and Jo Siffert drove to a eleven lap victory in one of the most dominating wins in Sebring History. The Vic Elford/Jochen Neerspach 907 finished in second place.

The Porsche effort was impressive. The 8 cylinder 2.2 litre engines in the light 907 chassis produced speeds nearly equal to the 7 litre Fords of the previous year. Also, the 911 S of Alan Johnson and Alan Kirby won a special GT Class Price for a meritorious seventh position.

SRC 00701 Alfa Romeo 33 TT 12 L 6H Watkins Glen 1975 Bell-Pescarolo—PRE-ORDER NOW!

This car culminated several seasons of prototypes developed since 1969, evolved as experience was accumulated and regulations were modified.

Designed by Carlo Chiti, was based on a multi-tubular chassis, from there its name TT (Telaio Tubular in Italian), with a 12-cylinder engine in a 180° angle, four valves per cylinder, it achieved 500 HP and allowed the vehicle to reach a top speed of 330 km/h.

Six units were built only and usually three cars were taken to the races, two to compete and one to as reserve for breakdowns or accidents.

The Italian manufacturer experienced one of its best years, wining seven race out of nine. It leaned on the German’s pilot Willy Khausen’s team, who recruited for that season half a dozen Formula 1 drivers that rotate themselves in the driving positions.

For this race, that was the last one of the calendar that season, very early indeed, as it took place on 12th and 13th of July 1975, the drivers were Derek Bell, that after half dozen seasons in F1 without too much success he focused on resistance competition, on which he obtained great results; and Henry Pescarolo, who alternated Grand Prix with resistance, spending one more year afterwards driving single-seaters.

The race had over 50,000 spectators and 36 teams registered for it, out of which 32 turned up for practice, that was tough, as only 17 cars classified for the race.

Our protagonist achieved the third fastest time in practice, 1’45 “450 thousandths. Its race ended up once covered 826.083 kilometres after 6h, 01’23”, obtaining the first place.

The manufacturer after 1975 amazing season conducted a strong media campaign on the markets in which it already had presence.

Ferrari modified the cars slightly but retained the separate side fuel tanks until early in the 1956 season when the tanks were faired into the body like those on the Cartrix Ferrari D50 models. This is the most famous Lancia D50 because it was driven by Alberto Ascari who crashed over the railing and into the Monaco harbor during the 1955 Grand Prix. He was recovered in a few minutes but crashed fatally during practice for the Monza sports car race the following week.
